I use a mixture of mediums to create my artwork. One of my favorite mediums to use is birch wood. The work that I create is functional in the sense that it serves more than one purpose. For example, in the past I have designed coffee tables so that the tops could be taken off and hung on the wall as paintings.
My approach to painting is from a self taught technique which involves using rags, not paintbrushes to stain the colors into the wood. This process, while time consuming, allows the wood grain to be the center of attraction because there are no brush strokes.
I use a single solid piece of birch plywood, not inlay to create my designs.
The style of my work is inftuenced by my New Orleans hreitage. Colors are chosen as a means of expressing personality and character. Leaving the faces without detail or distinction forces the viewer to interpret the other elements of the painting. This faceless approach allows the viewer to appreciate the painting as a whole.
I utilized my background experience as an automobile painter to spray clear polyurethane. This process gives the illusion of a shiny glass surface while protecting the wood from the elements. Each of my pieces tells a story. My artwork transcends beyond the canvas. Passion and intensity is reflected in the fiery virbrant colors used to create pieces that are awe inspiring and incomparbale.
Art is not only about what you view, it is also about how it makes you feel. My gift dyslexia allows me to create and think outside of the box.
